Ennen vanhaan kekri oli vuoden kohokohta – satokausi päättyi, vuodenkierto vaihtui ja  palvelusväki sai hengähdyshetkensä. Elettiin vuoden synkintä aikaa, jolloin uskottiin vainajien henkien palaavan keskuuteemme. Yliluonnollisia olentoja lepyteltiin herkuilla, uhrilahjoilla ja saunan löylyillä. Tulevaa yritettiin kurkistaa taikojen avulla ja taata hyvä satokausi myös seuraavalle vuodelle… Kekri on taikojen ja yliluonnollisen läsnäolon aikaa.

Kekri ja Halloween kumpuavat samasta eurooppalaisesta perinteestä – mutta kekri on aivan omaa, suomalaista kulttuuriperintöämme.

Tervetuloa Kuopion museon perjantai-illan tapahtumaan, jossa kekrin henki herää eloon! Luvassa on ohjelmaa nuorilta nuorille – tarinoita, hahmoja ja tunnelmaa, joka saa niskavillat nousemaan kutkuttavalla tavalla pystyyn.

Kuopion museon tapahtuma yleisötiloissa on maksuton kaikille.

Eli ei kun vaan naamiaisasua niskaan ja mukaan kekrimäiseen menoon – koe Kekrin ajan mystiikkaa Kuopion museolla! Tapahtuma on kohdennettu ensi sijassa nuorille ja nuorille aikuisille, eikä sen sisältö välttämättä sovellu lapsille.

Tapahtumayhteistyössä ovat Kuopion museon kanssa mm. Kuopion nuorisopalvelut, Kuopion kansalaistoiminnan palvelut, Kuopion seudun Nuorisoseurojen TeatteriTorstai, Kuopion kaupungin teatterin Nuorten teatteri, Kuopio Rock Academy, Itä-Suomen maa- ja kotitalousnaiset, Kuopion Isänmaallinen seura, Kuopion kansallinen kaupunkipuisto sekä iso joukko nuoria esiintyjiä ja talkoolaisia!

In the old days, Kekri marked the highlight of the year – the harvest season ended, the annual cycle turned, and servants got a well-earned break. It was the darkest time of the year, when people believed the spirits of the dead returned among the living. Supernatural beings were appeased with treats, offerings, and sauna steam. Magic was used to glimpse the future and ensure a good harvest for the coming year… Kekri is a time of spells and supernatural presence.

Kekri and Halloween share roots in European tradition – but Kekri is a unique part of Finnish cultural heritage.

Do you dare step into the darker shadows of the past?
Welcome to Kuopio Museum’s Friday evening event, where the spirit of Kekri comes alive! Expect spine-tingling program created by youth for youth – stories, characters, and an atmosphere that will send delightful chills down your spine.

The event at Kuopio Museum is mostly free of charge for everyone (see program for any exceptions – updates coming).

Forest spirits, underworld beings, goblins and ghosts
Lurk for offerings from the household:

A tasty meal on the sauna bench,

And the dead surely enjoy a shot of liquor.
